Out & About
Taxi - Harbourside Taxis: 01803 212 121
We recommend this fast, reliable, and friendly company that offers a full range of services.
Eating out options in Torquay has been wonderfully expanding over the past few years so there's now some great variety and options on offer. While the fine-dining establishments like Number 7 and The Elephant speak for themselves, for diners wanting a more casual and/or less pricey yet high-quality meal we can highly recommend the following:
Gemelli's Italian Restaurant
A 5 minute walk down the hill and around the corner, Gemelli's is a small family-run Italian restaurant that we highly recommend - as do many of our guests! During the busier periods, reserving in advance is highly recommended.
On The Rocks
This small and wonderful independent restaurant is less than 10 minutes on foot down to the sea front. It's recently been added to the Michelin Guide - which isn't at all suprising! Offering meat, fish, and vegetarian options of locally sourced ingredients, there's plenty of delicious choices. Sitting out on the patio when weather pemits, one has great views out over the bay.
Le Bistrot Pierre
In the new building next to On The Rocks, Pierre Bistrot offers beautiful views over the bay and the delicious food make this place one of our favourites! Although a chain and now into its second year in Torquay, Le Bistrot Pierre feels unique and well established. We've been countless times now and have thoroughly enjoyed it on each occasion. See their website for details about the special 'Wine and Dine' evenings or the 'Soiree Gastronomique'. Booking is very often required.
Just a couple of minutes away on Belgrave Rd is this Indian restaurant that we always really enjoy - eating in or take-away.
One World Cafe
Set in the beautiful gardens by Torre Abbey, The Riveria Centre and the crazy golfcourse is this lovely independent cafe and bistro that serves delicious food and has a great outdoor patio.
The Blue Walnut is a great cafe that hosts a variety of events, including live music. It's a small, fully licensed cafe that hosts predominantly blues and folk bands. It can only seat approximately 35 people, so we advise that you book in advance! (15 minute walk to Chelston area of Torquay).
Ephesus: A Greek and Turkish restaurant in Torwood St (just up from the Marina). It took us a while to make it here because it was always fully booked when we tried to just walk in on whim. Now we know why - the service is excellent, the food delicious, and the atmosphere 'smart/casual' with a tasteful and subtle Eastern Mediterranean feel.
The Crab Shack, Teignmouth
Another great location on the Teign estuary, this small restaurant has its own fishing boats and offers some of the best seafood in the area. Small but very popular, booking is required but worth the effort.
